Harry Potter themed local cinema trailer for Centre Screen Cinema

Centre Screen Cinema's new promotional trailer.

We decided to have some fun with this one by creating a tongue-in-cheek, Harry Potter themed advert for our local community cinema

The short clip will play before every film that is shown at the cinema and stars three local trainee wizards! :) We spent an enjoyable hour filming it and then went on to create all of the special fx in Adobe After Effects. (castles in the background, mountains, rain, wand spells, fire and explosions)

Well done to the three wizards who took part!

We will have more information soon on an upcoming film making workshop where you will be able to help produce and star in your own mini movie!

In the mean time check out the Centre Screen Cinema website at for more information about this excellent local community cinema.

Roll over the images below to see before/after examples of the effects used in the video

Shot breakdown: Add the castle in the background, add wand effects, add flares, add heat haze above centre effect, colour correct then add the rain.
Shot breakdown: Add mountains in the background to cover the park swings, add fire to the tree, mask out characters, add flares, colour correct and then add the rain.

We were commissioned by the Young People's Service & the Lancashire Constabulary, to work with the 'Arts For Our Sake' project and create a short film.

Short Film 'Missed Opportunity' Project Timeline

The project was initially created to bring young people from different communities together and express their opinions through Art on social issues such as Racism, Bullying, Knife Crime, Domestic Violence, Anti-social Behaviour and Alcohol Abuse. When commissioned to work with the group, our aim was to take their artwork a step further and work with the young people in creating an emotional, high impact and captivating short film based on the issues studied.

Over a period of 10 weeks, we worked with the group demonstrating film making techniques, helping them to create a storyline, writing their script, creating a storyboard and filming the production itself.

The finished film was aptly titled 'Missed Opportunity' and was edited in our studio, it was then premiered at the ACE Centre in Nelson, Lancashire to over 120 people. The production was then also showcased at Centre Screen Cinema at the Rainhall Centre, Barnoldswick, Lancashire.

Due to the success of the film, we were then re-commissioned to turn the short film into an educational pack, to be presented in School's and Youth Centre's across the North West. You can see more details about the Interactive DVD here.

Filming on location

The whole experience has proved to be a very challenging, yet rewarding one for the group. Having never acted in a film before, their confidence grew throughout the filming process, many of the cast were acting novices and we were very impressed by their adaptability and commitment to the project.

We wanted to really push the boundaries with this project, choosing to shoot it all in high definition, and using professional film-making techniques. This, matched with 100% effort from everyone involved, has given the final film the look and feel it deserved.
